Vintage Buffet Crampon S1 Clarinet--Ferree's Overhaul!
One of several professional clarinets we are offering for sale. This one is a Buffet Crampon S1 Bb professional clarinet. The S1 was developed by Buffet as an alternative to the R13, with slightly less-undercut and repositioned tone holes resulting in a sweeter and more centered tone. This one is s/n 204XXX, 1980, one of the best periods in Buffet’s history. It is in excellent condition: wood is a marvelous billet of unstained grenadilla with a nice, tight grain and no chips, cracks, or repairs. Tenons are nice and square with no wobble between joints. This example is silver rather than nickel plated (currently a $520 upgrade) which is about 99.5% intact with little if any wear at all. Just through the shop where it was cleaned, bore oiled, and repadded in the traditional manner with Ferree’s B17 du Jour double-bladder, pressed-felt pads. All new natural tenon corks. Plays very nicely across all registers with an even response and a more focused, gentler tone than the typical R13. Cork grease and key oil are for local pickup only and will not be shipped, but it does include a vintage one-up, three-down Buffet mouthpiece in a C facing on a hard rubber Riffault blank, a silver Buffet cap and ligature, new ProTec microfiber cloth, and new SuperSlick chamois swab. All in the nice Buffet pouchette case with zippered case cover. Certainly the nicest S1 of the very few you’ll find for sale (if any!), and at more than $2,000 less than a new R13!
