Bach Stradivarius Vindabona 180S72 Silver Trumpet W/ Trigger!
One of several intermediate and professional trumpets we are offering for sale. This is a Bach Stradivarius 180S72MLV—the hard-to-find Vindabona model! Varyingly spelled "Vindobono" and "Vindobona" in the early Bach publications when it was introduced in 1959, the Vindabona was Vincent Bach's solution to provide the world a trumpet with French-style valves but the stepped bore taper of German rotary trumpets. This particular ML bore version has a small leadpipe to provide some resistance, and then a bore starting at 0.448 and growing to 0.459 by the end of the tuning slide. The result is an almost cornet-like taper with a huge, dark, Teutonic sound and tons of projection, but all the response and flexibility of the standard Strad valve block. A great horn for those big German symphonic works, and to Bach's amusement, popularized by the jazz artists of the day, including Wynton Marsalis in his early years. S/n 687XX makes this a 1973 Elkhart horn with the sought-after Corporation bell, and also includes the first-valve trigger!
This particular example is in excellent condition. Silver plate is about 99% with just a very little bit of wear starting if you look closely. No major dents or dings, but it does have some very small, very few scattered marks and imperfections left over from past dent removal, mostly right at the main brace where we didn't think it wise to remove the bell to get that last little bit out. Best of all, it is just through the shop in October, 2026 where it was disassembled, chem cleaned, detergent cleaned, lubed, polished, and had all new tuning slide O-rings, piston felts, water key cork, stop rod bumper and nuts, and trigger spring installed. Valves show very little wear at all and are fast and smooth and quiet with excellent compression. All tuning slides are free including the third valve dump slide. It is, quite simply, a marvelous, one-of-a kind player. I figure the player who purchases this will have a slew of other trumpets and cases and likely drop this into his quad case, so I've got it in a terrible gig bag with messed up zippers just to protect it. I do have cases available for sale separately if you need one.
A super hard-to-find Strad especially in this condition, and just in time for Christmas!
