Buffet Crampon S1 Clarinet W/ Valentino Master's Pads

One of several professional clarinets we are offering for sale. This is a Buffet Crampon S1 Bb professional clarinet. The S1 was developed by Buffet as an alternative to the R13, with slightly less-undercut and repositioned tone holes resulting in a sweeter and more centered tone. This one is s/n 196XXX, 1979, right at the end of Buffet’s most sought-after decade ever.  It is in excellent condition: wood is a marvelous billet of unstained grenadilla with a nice, tight grain and no chips, cracks, or repairs. Tenons are nice and square with no wobble between joints. This example is silver rather than nickel plated (currently a $520 upgrade) which is about 99.5% intact with a tiny bit of wear mostly on a couple of posts.  Just through the shop where it was cleaned, bore oiled, hand polished, and repadded with in a combination of Ferree’s B17 de’Jur double-bladder, pressed-felt pads and Ferree’s cork on the lower, and Ferree’s premium cork on the upper except for two softer pads on the rings to facilitate playing across the bridge key. Plays very nicely across all registers with an even response and warm tone—a bit sweeter and more focused than most of our darker R13’s.  Cork grease and key oil are for local pickup only and will not be shipped, but it does include a new ProTec microfiber cloth, new SuperSlick chamois swab, and the Buffet pouchette case, with a little corrosion on the hardware but in excellent structural condition.  Certainly the nicest S1 of the very few you’ll find for sale, and at more than $2,000 less than a new R13!
