Conn 88H Trigger Trombone--Open Wrap, Glenn Cronkhite Case!

Conn 88H Trigger Trombone--Open Wrap, Glenn Cronkhite Case!

One of several Conn 88H trigger trombones we are offering for sale. Technically a large bore tenor trombone, it is very often used as a bass trombone, and probably the most popular pro tenor ever made. This is the 88H-O variation. Red brass bell gives a very dark tone and excellent projection, and the open-wrap F section provides a free-blowing, more responsive experience than the standard closed wrap design. It is in very good condition: lacquer about 95% intact with a few scattered, small dings and scratches, and a little wear mostly on the slide portion where the hand grips it. A shallow dent in the F tuning slide that is not worth removing. Too big to get up close photos without exceeding the posting limit, but more are available on request. Just through the shop where it was lubed, polished, and had a new slide bumper and neoprene water key cork installed. All tuning slides are free, slide is fast and smooth and should be fine unless you’re an absolute perfectionist. 88H eras are a pain to pin down. This appears to be a newer horn, but the s/n 9765XX on the body shows as 1962 on the serial lists. The “B 0731” on the slide doesn’t show up at all on the lists, but the C-series start at 1963. The very nice Glenn Cronkhite case is one of the original Conkhites that dates back to the 70’s as well, and is in excellent condition with shoulder straps, zippered internal accessory bag, and a separate, reinforced section to protect the slide. It alone sells for $444 on their site. MSRP $5,058, selling new at WWBW for $3,464, so snatch up this excellent one, and save about $1,700!
