Conn 88HLT Lightweight Trigger Trombone
One of several intermediate and professional trombones we are offering for sale. This is a Conn 88HLT tenor trombone—the version with the thin-walled, rose brass bell reminiscent of the Elkhart horns with their warm tone but lively, easy-to-control response. Serial number 5-590XXX makes this a pretty recent 2000 horn, and it looks excellent: Lacquer is about 95% with a few very small spots of wear and some of that sparkly look that Conn lacquer gets over time. A couple very small dings along the length of the bell but no significant dents or signs of significant dent removal. Slide stockings are perfect, and the slide is glassy and smooth. All tuning slides are free, trigger is smooth, recently restrung and aligned with good compression. New bumper and water key cork just installed. It plays delightfully—a bit lighter sounding than the more common 88H’s you can easily find, warm and full at low volumes, and brightening up with a broad overtone spectrum at higher volumes. Comes in the original case which is also in excellent condition. Tuning slide grease, rotary valve oil and slide cream are for local pickup only and will not be shipped, but it does include the new ProTec microfiber cloth. As mouthpieces are a personal preference, we have hundreds for sale separately and are happy to send in the case with no additional shipping. A great-playing horn in great condition that’s hard to find on the used market. MSRP $5,410, sells new for $3,879 at the “discount” M&A, so snatch this one up, and save almost $2,000!
