Crazy Rare Selmer Mark VI Low A Alto Saxophone In Silver Plate!
The rarest sax we have ever offered for sale! This is a Selmer Mark VI low-A alto in original silver plate. According to the excellent information available on the Henri Selmer webpage, only ninety of these were made in silver plate, and only about half with the high F# key. Serial number 192XXX makes this 1971. It is in exceptional condition: silver plate about 98% with a little actual wear on maybe three of the highest keys as seen in the photos, but everything I’m polishing on the rest of the horn appears just to be tarnish. You can see a small section right at the top of the sax where I got in between the posts and keys with a polishing strip to show that the tarnish is coming off and turning to bright silver underneath. This should polish up to near perfect at its next overhaul, and Anderson can replate those three keys for around $50 if you want it to be perfect. This site limits us to 12 photos, but you can see this on eBay with around 20, though it's marked up there to cover their insane sales fees.
No signs of repairs or dent removal. Owned by a well-known professor of jazz sax who used it regularly and played it publicly just prior to our acquiring it, and did make a few modifications including Oleg side key risers and a spatula-style rocker, though the original key IS included and can be put back on if you want. Pads are in very good condition as seen in the photos, recently serviced per the prior owner, with no adjustments or repairs needed. Just play tested by the two sax guys at our local shop, who were both so excited that they spent most of the time taking selfies with it. Includes the original case which is also hard to find, this one with some of the outer covering missing, but structurally sound with all latches working, and with the further addition of a very nice, padded case cover. Again, one of roughly forty-five made, and likely the last one you’ll ever see for sale!
