Rare 1976 Buffet Crampon RC Clarinet--Repadded & Gorgeous!
One of several professional clarinets we are offering for sale, and one of our rarest! This is a Buffet Crampon RC model in Bb. S/n 167XXX makes this a 1976—one of the first ever made and likely with Robert Carree’s own hands on it at some point. In fact, it actually comes in a 150th Anniversary case with the sticker removed, possibly left over from the prior year and likely original for this horn. It is in excellent condition: wood body has a very small sliver of wood near the upper tenon of the upper joint, but it’s just cosmetic and we didn’t think it even worth filling. No cracks, pins or repairs of any kind. Nickel plated about 95% with a little wear as seen in the photos. Tenons are nice and square with no wobble between joints. Just through the shop where it was bore oiled and repadded in a combination of Pisoni double-bladder, pressed-felt pads and Ferree’s premium cork pads, opting for a more traditional feel and tone. Plays very nicely from top to bottom with far better intonation than most R13’s, and a sweeter, warmer, more focused sound. Cork grease and key oil are for local pickup only and won’t be shipped, but it does include a new SuperSlick chamois swab. Sells for $5,777 at many online retailers compared to $3,925 for a typical R13, and crazy hard to find in this condition—especially from the sought-after mid 70’s!
