Rare Selmer Centered Tone A Clarinet CT-A Overhauled, Nice!
Vintage Selmer Centered Tone A clarinet! This is an upgraded version with lots of optional keys: forked Eb, articulated G#/C#, and extra trill on the lower. S/n P91XX, roughly 1954. Exceptional condition: Silver plate about 99% with little if any wear at all. Wood is in exceptional condition with no chips or cracks, tenons are nice and square with no wobble between joints. Just through the shop where it was completely disassembled, cleaned, bore-oiled, hand polished, and had all new pads installed: the lower in a combination of Ferree’s B17 de’Jur double-bladder, pressed-felt pads and Ferree’s premium cork pads, and the upper in Ferree’s cork with Kraus and Valentino synthetic pads on the bridge keys. It plays very well across all registers, with a big, focused, moderately warm tone with good projection. A great jazz clarinet, and a Benny Goodman favorite. This clarinet has a zillion adjustment screws and more key interactions than a standard CT, so I wouldn’t be surprised if requires minor tweaking after shipping. Comes in a vintage Selmer double case which is also in very good condition, with a new replacement handle. Hard to find in A, hard to find in this condition, and hard to find with the extra keywork—near impossible to find with all three. A great, vintage Selmer that will be great to pair with your Bb Selmer CT, or even with the vintage Selmer 55 Bb we have listed separately!
