Vintage 1972 Buffet Crampon R13 Clarinet
One of several professional clarinets we are offering for sale. This is a Buffet Crampon R13 clarinet in Bb. S/n 133XXX makes it a vintage 1972—right in the sweet spot of Buffet’s Golden Era and one of the most sought-after periods ever. It is in exceptional condition: body is a great billet of aged grenadilla with no chips or cracks, a tight, straight grain and squared tenons with no wobble between joints. Silver plated rather than nickel (currently a $671 upgrade) about 99.5% with just a little wear on some of the posts, but still bright and shiny as seen in the photos. Just through the shop where it was disassembled, cleaned, bore oiled, hand polished, lubed, had all new tenon corks installed, and was repadded with Valentino Master’s Series synthetic pads—one of the quietest, most reliable pads available. Plays delightfully from top to bottom with a dark tone, big core of sound, and a wide-open feel. Key oil and cork grease are for local pickup only, but it does include a nice Robert Dilutis hard rubber mouthpiece, an older but serviceable ligature and cap, and a new SuperSlick bore swab. All in a nearly new German-made Seggelke case with backpack straps, zippered external pocket, and room for an extra barrel and other accessories. Sells new at M&A right now for a whopping $4,781, so save about $2,800, and snatch this one up from one of the most desirable periods ever!
