Vintage A. Courtois Professional Flugelhorn W/ Trigger!
One of several professional flugelhorns we are offering for sale. This is an Antoine Courtois Model AC 154-1-0 Bb horn in lacquer. S/n 221XX seems to be a vintage mid-70’s, though the date is hard to track down and you have to be super careful not to look at trumpet and cornet lists or the pre-Gaudet lists. It has only two water keys unlike the more modern version. Serialized valves. This one is in excellent condition: lacquer about 99% with just very light scratches from careful use, but no significant wear, dents, dings or signs of repair. It is a gorgeous horn as you can see in the photos. Just through the shop where it was cleaned, lubed, and had new tuning slide O-rings and water key corks installed. Valves are fast and smooth and quiet and look almost unused. Compression is excellent. Note that this is oiled with synthetic (Hetman #1) oil and you should use something similar or thoroughly clean the pistons and casings prior to switching to a petroleum-based product. All tuning slides are free, trigger works fine. No mouthpiece, but we have dozens for sale separately on our eBay site “ashanteemusicinc.” Comes in what I think is a Getzen case. The tubing doesn’t make it into the slots, but the case still does hold the horn securely and safely with a little extra padding. We can upgrade you to a Reunion Blues leather gig bag or new ProTec trumpet/flugel case for an additional cost, if you’d rather, or ship it with no case at all for $65 less. 0.413 bore, 6.69” bell, hand-lapped monel pistons and that sweet, mellow sound that has made this one of the most popular French flugels for decades. Sells new at the online discounters for $4,718, so snatch up one of the nicest you’ll find, and save about $2,000!
