Vintage Buffet Crampon BC20 Clarinet W/ Ferree's Overhaul!
One of several professional clarinets we are offering for sale. This is a Buffet Crampon Model BC20 in Bb. It is a professional model that Buffet offered as an alternative to the R13 until the mid 80’s, and eventually evolved into the current RC model. This one is a 1983 example, one of the last made, and the nicest one I have ever seen: wood has no chips, cracks, or repairs; tenons are nice and square with no wobble between joints, silver plated rather than nickel (a $560 upgrade!) about 99.9% with little if any wear at all! Unlike most of the clarinets you might be looking at, this one is just through the shop where it was bore oiled, had the middle tenon cork replaced, and had all new pads installed. We considered using synthetic pads on this, but since folks who play a BC20 are looking for the traditional BC20 sound and feel, we opted to do this one with a Ferree’s premium cork upper and a Ferree’s B17 de’Jur double bladder, pressed felt lower. Plays very well with an open feel and full, warm tone, perhaps a bit sweeter than most R13’s, and better balanced across all the registers. Comes in a slim pochette case with a zippered case cover which has some tape residue on the outside and tape on the handle. By far the nicest BC20 you’ll find online—especially in silver plate—and perfect for someone wanting a bit more European-style instrument, or a professional horn without spending $2,000 on a similar R13!
