Vintage Buffet Crampon Pre R13 Pre-R14 Clarinet!

One of several professional clarinets we are offering for sale. This is a vintage Buffet Crampon in Bb. Buffet called their pro clarinets “Master Bore” at the time, but this is now commonly referred to as a pre-R13 w/ forked Eb, or a pre-R14. S/n 1SXXX makes this a pretty early one at 1903. It is a low-pitch (not high-pitch) instrument. It is in good condition:  upper joint has been cracked and repaired so nicely that the prior owner didn’t even know, and it’s pretty hard to see unless you’re looking for it. No other chips or cracks. Nickel silver keys which don’t polish up to a high shine like plated keys do, but also do not wear. Just through the shop over a few months in 2026 (and just finished in August) where it was bore oiled, repadded with mostly Ferree’s double-bladder, pressed-felt premium pads, plus a couple synthetic pads where we felt it more appropriate, had a couple tone holes refaced, and was brought up into excellent playing condition. Plays easily over the entire range with a somewhat brighter, punchier tone than most of our R13’s, though this will be greatly affected by your own mouthpiece rig. And of course, with the extra Eb mechanism you can now play the forked Eb as an alternative to the other fingerings, helping you glide along some of those faster passages. A dirt-cheap, professional instrument that will be great while you save up for your modern R13, and just in time for a new school year!
