Vintage Buffet Crampon R13 Bb Clarinet
One of several Buffet Crampon clarinets we are offering for sale. This one is a vintage horn, s/n 571XX, approximately 1956, one of the earliest R13’s made. It is in unusually good condition: wood has a very short, repaired crack down around the RH Eb/Bb tone hole and post. Nickel plating about 99.5% with no noticeable wear at all. Just through the shop wear it was cleaned, bore oiled, and had all new pads installed. Plays very well across all registers, perhaps slightly more resistant than modern R13’s, with a full, round, balanced tone. Includes a thumb rest attachment, reed case with several reeds, a Buffet three-up, one-down mouthpiece on a Chedeville blank in a C facing, ligature, and cap. Cork grease cannot be shipped. All in the period case with a zippered case cover, and one appears to be the original owner’s name plate: PFC Ira Kemp, 50th Army Band. A great horn for those of you who prefer the original sound and feel of early R13’s, and at more than $2,500 less than new!
