Vintage Couesnon Monople C Trumpets!

Vintage Couesnon Monople C Trumpets!

One of several C trumpets we are offering for sale. This is a vintage Couesnon Monopole Star s/n 399XX.  It is in very good condition:  silver plating about 95% with minor wear here and there other than the leadpipe, which is nearly raw brass.  Very minor nicks and scratches, but no significant dents or signs of repair. This site limits my photos, but it's posted in several places with additional photos.  It was obviously a pro player’s main axe, as it has been highly customized to make it more useful in a modern setting:  underslung finger ring has been moved to a top position, leadpipe has an odd pattern to it and appears to be a replacement, water keys removed and replaced with Amado keys to improve resistance, etc.  Tunings slides are fast and smooth with no problems and do show some wear, but using Hetman classic oil and Selmer “the red stuff” slide grease, the compression actually measures 1.6—far better than most vintage horns, and perfectly playable.  All tuning slides are free.  Just detergent cleaned, lubed, and had new tuning slide O-rings and piston felts installed.  Non-original top cap on the third valve, as the original appears to have been cross-threaded by a prior owner and doesn’t screw on all the way.  The original is included, but our local shop is so backed up that it would have taken them a month to get around to fixing it.  Plays very well with little resistance and a great, moderately bright tone—a great horn for a disciplined player who can be careful about playing in tune, as this does not slot a narrowly as most modern pro horns.  I have put this in a vintage Ess & Ess case made in Brooklyn, NY which works well for the horn as long as you use the foam inserts I’ve included to keep the horn from bouncing around.  Somehow the case has even kept both its keys for the past sixty years! If you prefer it with no case, or a new or used double or single case, please let me know as we have dozens of cases for sale separately.  Also includes a Bach 5C which for some reason seems to work really well with this horn.  A great C trumpet for church and side work without spending two grand on a used Strad or Xeno!
