Vintage F. Besson Pre-War Model 130 Large Bore Trumpet!
Ashantee Music is pleased to offer for sale this vintage F. Besson Meha Bb trumpet. The bell is marked, “Paris-France, Fabrication Francaise Perfectionnee” and it has the “F. Besson . . . SGDG” medallion on the side of the valve casing. Serial number 936XX, hard to date precisely, but definitely a 1940’s (pre-war) horn according to a bunch of collectors and based on the construction. Model 130 according to the original shop card, which is listed as a large-bore in the Bruno catalog. It measures 0.542” at the third valve port. Sleeved valve casings typical of the pre-War horns. French configuration with the underslung third valve slide, fixed first-valve slide, and forward-facing second-valve slide. It is in very good condition with moderate wear as seen in the photos, and very few small dings here and there, mostly of the type that you have to go looking for, including on the second and third-valve tuning slides. All tuning slides are free including the third-valve dump slide. Valves appear so clean that one wonders if they have perhaps been rebuilt recently, and are fast and smooth. Appears all original, with no signs of alteration, repairs, or major dent work. New tuning slide O-rings, bumper, and water key cork. Original Lifton faux alligator skin hard case with the owner’s name stamped under the handle in gold leaf. Includes the original lyre and best of all—the original Bruno warranty card! An excellent horn from a sought-after period in a hard-to-find configuration! This example sold in March 2022 for $1875 plus tax and shipping.
