Vintage Henri Selmer Paris A Clarinet--Overhauled, Double Case
This example sold for $1599 plus tax and shipping November 2024. One of the rarest A clarinets we are offering for sale! This is a vintage Henri Selmer France in A which we’ve had for some time and I’ve been dying to restore it and finally got around to it! Serial number 554X makes it 1929-1930, right before the new logo, and crazy hard to find in A. It is in excellent condition: wood body is a 100-year old bit of aged grenadilla with a tiny ding off the edge of the upper tenon, but no cracks, pins or repairs at all. Keys appear to be German silver which doesn’t polish up as shiny as silver plate, but also doesn’t wear off. Just completely disassembled, cleaned, bore oiled, hand polished, all key materials replaced, had new natural cork tenons installed, and repadded in the traditional manner mostly with Ferree’s double-bladder, pressed felt pads. The original barrel did not come to us with this, but it pairs very nicely with the DEG Accubore M67 we’ve included. Seems to be a large-bore instrument though we didn’t measure it, and takes a bit of air, but the payoff is a tremendous but focused dark tone and even feel to the keywork. Comes in a nice double case with plenty of room for the Model 55 Bb we have listed separately, if you want the ultimate Selmer Jazz Bb/A clarinet combo!
